Lieutenant Abrem Ayana serves as the commander of the Brookhaven (GA) Police Department Office of Professional Standards and Special Projects. In his current role, Ayana manages Internal Affairs, Background & Hiring, Community Engagement, and Technology Projects. His innovative approach has significantly impacted the department, notably leading to the council-approved launch of the country's second Drone as First Responder (DFR) Program in October 2020. His expertise in DFR has made him a sought-after speaker. Additionally, Ayana has also led the implementation of initiatives including the Mental Health Co-Responder, Live 911, and Flock OS.
Lieutenant Ayana's leadership and contributions have earned him significant recognition. He was honored as BPD Supervisor of the Year in both 2019 and 2022 and received the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police Supervisor of the Year award for the metro Atlanta region in 2022. He holds advanced degrees in Political Science and is a proud graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff & Command, Class 544, where he served as class president.
