Toronto Police Service
PC Jeremy Burns joined the Canadian Armed Forces in August 2007 and served honorably until February 2011 with the 1st Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) in Edmonton, AB. He was deployed to Kandahar Afghanistan with TF 3-09 Battle-group from October 2009 to May 2010. In 2018, Jeremy transitioned to the Toronto Police Service (TPS), where he began developing the Military Veterans’ Wellness Program. Motivated by his encounters with veterans during 911 radio calls—many of whom were unaware of the benefits available to them—he identified a critical gap in support and worked to create a formal mechanism to assist them. His efforts led to the founding of a national community policing initiative aimed at helping military veterans in crisis, for which he has received numerous accolades, including the Mental Health Excellence Award. Alongside his professional achievements, Jeremy is a dedicated father of two children and continues to actively patrol Toronto, Where he works as a priority response officer.
